Here is a roundup of photos from a recent visit to the McClung Museum of Natural History and Culture. I used to come here as a child to study the Egyptology artifacts, but now I'm loving the Human Origins exhibit downstairs. The overhead illustration of the Lascaux Cave paintings is particularly stunning. As an artist myself, I’m fascinated by the skill evident in the portrayal of the hind legs on the various horses. Not only do I find them fun to draw myself, I can also appreciate the artists’ choices in rendering the hock and gaskin. It may look a little cartoonish to our modern eyes, but these were actually careful decisions made to evoke a feeling of swiftness and power.
